Money / Currency
The currency of Mozambique is the new Metical ( plural meticais, pronounced 'meta-caysh') and is divided into 100 centavos. US dollars and British Pounds can be used through most of Mozambique at your accommodation and South African Rands are accepted in the south of Mozambique.
Exchange Rates
There are private exchange bureaus in Maputo and these often offer better exchange rates than the banks. Exchanging of currency on the black market is strongly discouraged. You will generally get good value for your money with the exchange rate being very much in your favor.
