Sperggebiet National Park, Namibia
The Sperrgebiet National Park is one of Namibia's youngest and most welcomed national parks. It is located in the far Southwest with its borders reaching the Atlantic Ocean on the west, the Orange River in the north of South Africa, Ais-ais on the West and The Namib Naukluft National Park in the north.
The area was formerly known as Diamond Area 2. Since the establishing of the national park in 2004. The Sperrgebiet National Park now gets its name from the German word "Sperrgebiet" meaning "prohibited area". Currently not all of the park has been opened to the public.
With the Sperrgebiet's prime location, the Orange River and Altanic Ocean supports various wildlife such as antelope, brown and spotted hyenas, Cape fur seals, and a variety of birds, reptiles and invertebrates. It is believed that around one thousand plant species exist of which 130 are endemic.
The Sperrgebiet also plays home to some of Namibia's most opulent desert safari lodges such as Desert Horse-Inn and Eagles Nest Lodge.
