Self-drive Safaris in Southern Africa

African
Self-drive SafarisLuxury self-drive African safaris are a great way to travel and explore at your own pace.  South Africa is an easy and laid back self-drive holiday. The rest of your luxury self-drive holiday becomes more of an adventure for countries such as Namibia and Botswana.

Diya Travel can help you with the required car hire options you would require to ensure you get the best vehicle to suite the terrain. Popular routes in South Africa include the beautiful Garden Route and the wilderness of the Kruger National Park. If you like scuba diving, you could do your self-drive holiday in KwaZulu Natal and also see the Drakensberg Mountains. For pictureque settings and some of the world's best wines, do your self-drive holiday in the Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek winelands.

For the more adventurous, Namibia is a great country to do a self-drive holiday. Visit Etosha National Park, The Deadvlei and Sossusvlei in the Namib Naukluft Desert and stay in some truely spectacular desert lodges. There are various other options for self-drive holidays in the rest of Africa. For these it is highly recommended that you are an experienced traveller as challenges such fuel shortages in Zimbabwe, seriously crazy local drivers in Mozambique and generally poor road conditions in countries such as Botswana can put a dampener on your self-drive holiday experience. It is also good to note that hired cars in South Africa may not be taken across international borders. If you are serious about a self-drive holiday that will cross borders, it is suggested that a vehicle is purchased or another one hired in the next country.

With car hire being a bit limiting at times, motorcycle self-drive safaris are easier to arrange and provide an even closer to Africa feeling.

Below is an example luxury self-drive holiday itinerary.

14 Day Luxury Selfdrive in Namibia
Namibia’s name was derived from the Namib Desert, a unique geological feature renowned for the pristine and haunting quality of its landscape. It is this feature that characterizes the country most. The desolate Namib Desert is said to be the oldest in the world, with its high dunes and awe-inspiring sense of space.
